TWO ONLINE COURSES:
Friday, April 25 through Sunday, May 18, 2008 Recognizing and Managing Countertransference in Problem Gambling Clinical Work This online course is an intensive study of countertransference and how it impacts clinical judgment and treatment. This advanced-level course requires a review of current literature, as well as clinical seminar-type e-discussions with other participants and the instructor, Geoffrey W. Locke, MA, MSW, ABD, a clincian in private practice in Amherst, Massachusetts, for 12 CEUs.
Beginning Monday, May 26, 2008 -- end date to be announced The Gambling Brain: How It Works & How to Treat It This online course will explain the role of biochemistry in the development of a gambling problem and in its treatment. It will discuss the cross priming effect of other addictions on gambling disorders. The course will also review how gambling problems are addressed with medications and/or psychotherapeutic treatment. This advanced-level course requires a review of current literature, as well as clinical seminar-type e-discussions with other participants and the instructor, Jon Grant, JD, MD, MPH, Associate Professor of Psychiatry at the University of Minnesota Medical School, for CEUs (pending).
Trainings will increase current substance abuse and mental health clinicians' skills in clinical interventions, addictions treatment, and case management for people experiencing gambling disorders. Clinicians will learn how to incorporate problem gambling information and treatment skills into their clinical practices. To learn more, please download our Spring 2008 Regional Training Brochure.
The Council also offers technical assistance and in-service trainings for clinicians (leading to certificates or national certifications as compulsive gambling counselors) and any other professional or community-based organization representatives who are interested.
