CONGRATULATIONS TO GOVERNOR-ELECT DEVAL PATRICK

The Council looks forward to working with Governor-elect Deval L. Patrick on public policy related to gambling problems in the Commonwealth.

 

Patrick stated on September 9, 2006 in a Boston Globe article, “I have some serious reservations about proposals to legalize slot machines and casino gambling in Massachusetts. I am not convinced that we have fully considered the social and other costs on local communities of more gambling in Massachusetts, as well as the effect new gambling may have on our very successful state lottery.”

 

The Council is pleased that the Governor-elect is aware of the potential downside of expanded gambling and is considering all of the facts before making any decisions about the future of gambling in the Commonwealth.
