This training will examine problem gambling within a social context expressed through the complex interrelations of the individual, family and social network. “Family-Based Interventions for Understanding and Helping the Pathological Gambler to Access Treatment” will provide a description of basic principles and strategies for working with families, couples, and social systems that are affected by compulsive gambling. By the end of the course, each participant will have an increased understanding of gambling’s impact on the entire family system, and be able to utilize basic intervention strategies and techniques. Wednesday, May 13, 2009, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at UMass Medical Center, Worcester. Earn 7.5 CEUs.

 

Training Faculty: Jesse Mellor, LADC I, CAS, MAPGS, is the Director of Substance Recovery Services at the Henry Lee Willis Community Center in Worcester, as well as a Senior Instructor at Cambridge College. Paul Gerson, PhD, is a clinician in private practice on the North Shore. In addition, he is a faculty member at Cambridge College.
