Council Offers Free Financial Education Workshops10/28/2009 Seminars will take place at locations throughout the State The Massachusetts Council on Compulsive Gambling is pleased to announce that it will be offering free financial education workshops, made possible through a small grant from MoneyWi$e, a joint financial education project of Consumer Action and Capital One.
During the months of November and December 2009, the Council, a trusted education and training provider, and financial literacy advocate for more than 25 years, will present 12 seminars at locations throughout the state. The workshops will be held before and after traditional work hours and during the lunch hour to increase accessibility.

According to Council Program Director, Marlene Warner, We are thankful for this grant, and for the opportunity to expand our financial planning program in a tough economic climate. Education is one of the best ways to prevent problems with gambling.
Topics addressed during each session will be determined by the participants who will be asked to share feedback about preferences when registering. Topic modules to choose from include: Building and Keeping Good Credit, Managing Your Money Wisely: Tracking Your Money, Banking Basics: You Can Bank on It, Put Bad Credit behind You: Improve Your Credit, Make Your Money Work for You: Saving to Build Wealth, Building a Sound Financial Foundation: Micro Business Basics, Just Say No! to Senior Scams, ID Theft and Account Fraud: Prevention and Clean Up, The Keys to Homeownership: You Can Buy a Home, Keeping Your Home: Tips for Successful Homeownership, Your Right to a Financial Fresh Start: Bankruptcy, and Talking to Teens about Money.
